Launch of the Sustainable AI Coalition

We are excited to announce the launch of the Sustainable AI Coalition, a transformative initiative aimed at promoting the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) for sustainable development. This coalition brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators with a shared commitment to ensuring that AI technologies are aligned with environmental, social, and ethical goals.

In coordination with initiatives already launched on digital environmental sustainability, this Coalition is articulated with the Coalition for Digital Environmental Sustainability (CODES). The Secretariat of this Coalition (listing of initiatives and stakeholders) will be co-organized with the French government and UN organizations in coherence with the CODES framework.

AI has immense potential to support climate commitments and sustainability but also demands significant energy, water, and resources, potentially harming the environment. To align AI development with sustainability goals, a global Coalition unites researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, NGOs, and the public to share scientific facts, data, standards, and solutions.

The Coalition drives action through:

• Platform of Engagement – Connecting stakeholders committed to mitigating AI's environmental impact.

• Initiative Hub – A gateway to collaborative international efforts on AI and sustainability.

‍

By fostering collaboration, the Coalition enhances visibility, efficiency, and impact while minimizing duplication.
