WBCSD: Circularity Data Exchange

The Circularity Data Exchange (CDX) seeks to enable the exchange of consistent, comparable and credible product circularity data across global value chains. This will allow data to flow across the business ecosystem (including ‘downstream’ and ‘upstream’ flows).
This work leverages insights from Partnership for Carbon Transparency (PACT) applied to the context of circularity, to harmonize circularity data through a methodology and the technical specifications. CDX is also being developed to enable the data exchange mechanism called on under Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP), supporting companies gather the necessary data to compute the GCP’s circularity and impact metrics, reporting and, disclosure guidance.
A key output of this work is the recently released Enhancing the Exchange of Product Circularity Data – Recommendations White Paper, which captures insights from the CDX Scoping Phase and outlines next steps to operationalize data exchange frameworks, improve traceability, and support dynamic data models.
WBCSD’s work on circularity data exchange has also contributed to the Blueprint for a Global Framework on Digital Product Information Systems (DPIS) by providing key insights on structuring and harmonizing circularity data. WBCSD brings the business perspective on product circularity data to the conversation via CDX, to support development of the Global Framework for Digital Product Information Systems.
In turn, the outputs for the Global Framework inform the development of CDX, co-leads can align on product classifications and the language used to describe them. Alignment of the CDX deliverables with the direction of the Global Framework can further accelerate and support global harmonization of product-level data for circularity, for greater adoption.
